A series of daily updates for CHO members regarding relevant updates pertaining to Coronavirus from home and abroad.

  • Key Announcements:
    The Prime Minister is set to announce a new three-tier coronavirus lockdown system, in which areas in England will be labelled as “medium”, “high” or “very high” risk.
    Boris Johnson will address the Commons this afternoon at 3:30pm, after chairing a meeting of the government’s emergency COBRA committee, before leading a 6pm news briefing with Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Professor Chris Whitty.
    Liverpool City Region among areas facing ‘tier three’ lockdown – with pubs, bars and gyms expected to close.
    Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden told the media this morning that the system was to get the virus under control by the new year – and hopefully before Christmas.

    The UK hospitality industry has said it will take legal action to stop new local lockdown rules that could force pub, clubs and other venues to close.
    The Government announced 12,872 confirmed cases on Sunday.
    The Government has donated £1m to charities across the country through the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund.

Wales:

A second national lockdown could be introduced in Wales amid rising coronavirus
cases, the health minister has suggested.
Wales is “close to a tipping point” with the number of coronavirus cases rising rapidly across parts of the country, the first minister has said.

Seven residents at a West Lothian care home have now died in a Covid-19 outbreak, NHS Lothian has confirmed.

Northern Ireland’s first and deputy first ministers and the health minister will take
part in a meeting of the UK’s emergency Cobra committee later.
Northern Ireland could become the first entire region of the UK to impose a “circuit- breaker” lockdown to try to curb the second wave of COVID-19.

International
French authorities could be forced to impose new lockdowns in a bid to contain another surge in coronavirus cases that is putting a strain on hospitals, prime minister Jean Castex warned today.
Italy is planning to introduce new restrictions nationwide as infections climb to levels last seen in March.
In China, the city of Qingdao in the eastern Shandong province announced plans to test each of its nine million residents.
South Korea confirmed 97 new cases, as officials eased social distancing restrictions.

Stakeholders
Joe Anderson, the Liverpool city mayor, posted a message on Twitter this morning
accusing the government of “levelling down”. He also said he would continue to stand up for local businesses.
