Covid-19 Daily Bulletin

A series of daily updates for CHO members regarding relevant updates pertaining to Coronavirus from home and abroad.

Key Announcements:

• There have been more than 4.2m confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and nearly 125,000 people have died, government figures show. More than 22.5m people in the UK have now had their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
• Coronavirus would “have been one heck of a lot worse” in England without the test and trace system, a cabinet member has said after a parliamentary spending watchdog found the scheme had wasted billions of pounds in public funds.
• The Public Accounts Committee said its £37bn budget was “unimaginable” and warned the taxpayer should not be treated like an “ATM machine”.
• There is another dispute between the UK and the EU after the bloc’s most senior official suggested the UK had banned all Covid-19 vaccine exports. Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, wrongly claimed the UK had an “outright ban” on exports of vaccines produced on its soil.

• Nicola Sturgeon has announced some limited relaxations to outdoor mixing in Scotland, in particular for teenagers, as she told the public that “we cannot afford to take our foot off the brake too soon” if the country is to enjoy a “much more normal summer “.
