Covid-19 Daily Bulletin

A series of daily updates for CHO members regarding relevant updates pertaining to Coronavirus from home and abroad.

Key Announcements:

• The number of people who tested positive for the virus yesterday was 26,068, and 14 died within 28 days of a positive test, official figures show.
• A total 44,719,762 people had received a first dose of a Covid vaccine up to and including 29 June of which 32,872,450 had received a second dose.
• The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme starts to wind down from today – with employers now having to contribute.
• The NHS is drawing up plans for a Covid injection booster programme that would roll out third shots of the vaccine to millions of the most vulnerable people in the UK from September.
• Senior scientists have called for the UK to expand its official list of Covid symptoms.

Devolved

• Nearly 2,000 Covid cases in Scotland have been linked to people watching Euro 2020 matches, two thirds of which were people who travelled to London for Scotland’s game with England on 18 June.
• Wales’ education minister has announced that the 2-metre social distancing rule will be scrapped for students in autumn.

International

• Thailand on Thursday reported a daily record of 57 deaths from the coronavirus, the second day in a row of record-high fatalities.
• Less than 40 per cent of Australia’s oldest and most vulnerable citizens have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 more than four months into the rollout, new data shows.

Stakeholders

• The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) has called for the government to extend the 100 per cent business rates holiday until the end of the financial year and to “fundamentally reform” the tax.
