Alan Gilbert
27 Jan
All of us at the CHO were very sad to learn of the death of our friend and colleague Alan Gilbert.
Alan was synonymous with credit hire, partly due to his long career, starting at Swift and spending the majority of his time in the business at Helphire/Auxilis, and partly due to his obvious and lasting passion for the industry.
A passion that saw him being a leading member of the CHO and who played a major role in defending our interests against various threats, in particular as leader on the GTA Technical Committee and as one of the team representing the industry during the CMA inquiry in 2014-15.
Even during his later years, when he wasn’t well, he would make the effort to come to the CHO conference, supported by his marvellous wife Caroline. The conferences saw him at his best: irascible, funny, challenging….. he was never going to give people an easy ride, but he was also generous, kind and warm hearted.
Everyone in our industry knew Alan; he was a character, a splendid and substantial man in an increasingly grey business world.
All of us in the credit hire family and in the CHO will wish to pass on our deepest sympathies to Caroline and Alan’s family.
